12.03.20

Two Winstead PC attorneys, Shareholders Tom Helfand and Greg Zimmerman, have been recognized in D CEO Magazine’s “Dallas 500” directory, a listing of Dallas’s most influential business leaders. The 2021 edition was published and distributed in November.

The Dallas 500 features the region’s most powerful leaders across more than 50 industries. Honorees shared stories of challenges they have had to overcome in their careers and personal lives, hobbies and goals, and other fun facts about themselves.

Helfand has more than 40 years of experience in tax law, and is board certified in Taxation by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has represented a broad range of clients in a wide variety of areas of tax law, including real estate, bankruptcy and workouts, financial restructurings, emerging businesses, and corporate mergers and acquisitions, divisions and separations.

Zimmerman focuses his practice on real estate and commercial law. He counsels clients on key facets of the real estate industry, including acquisitions, dispositions, financings, leasing, development, entity selection and formation, reorganization and outsourcing arrangements for real estate services.

Below are excerpts from the “Dallas 500” profiles:

Tom Helfand

Tom Helfand has published numerous articles, spoken on a wide variety of topics, and served as outside counsel for several corporations in his career. The best advice he has received and by which he lives is to consistently challenge oneself. He says 2020 has taught him that “no matter how well things might be going, always be prepared for adversity.” When asked what changes he would like to see in North Texas, he stated: “I’d like to see improved educational opportunities for our young people.”

Greg Zimmerman

Greg Zimmerman served in the U.S. Army for six years before shifting to law. For a decade, he served as the co-leader of Winstead’s real estate development and investment practice. He helped develop a challenging business plan for the group. “With the power of teamwork, we accomplished our five-year revenue goal in two years,” he said. Reflecting on the best advice he had been given, Zimmerman stated: “If a job is not worth doing well, then it is not worth doing at all.”
