Lisa Buriak is a member of Winstead’s Real Estate Development & Investments Practice Group. Lisa has significant experience with the purchase, sale and financing of a wide variety of commercial properties, including office, industrial, retail, agricultural, mixed-use, multi-family, condominium, senior housing, hospitality and recreational properties. She is also experienced in representing both landlords and tenants with respect to commercial leasing matters.

Representative Experience

  • Routinely acted for a variety of Canadian Schedule 1 banks with respect to loans for the purchase and development of a variety of types commercial properties
  • Represented a European financial services company in the purchase, leasing and eventual sale of a mixed-use office and retail building in Calgary
  • Represented Morguard Investment Limited in its purchase of 44 Capital, a Class A Office tower in downtown Edmonton 
  • Represented The Great-West Life Assurance Company and London Life Insurance Company in their $382 million acquisition of Gulf Canada Square in Calgary 
  • Acted for a self-storage company in the acquisition, financing and sale of their portfolio of self-storage facilities valued at approximately $74 million
  • Assisted hotel operators with the purchase, sale and financing of several hotels in Alberta
  • Represented Allied Properties REIT in its acquisition of the Pilkington Building and the Biscuit Block, strategic infill properties in Calgary
  • Acted for large film studio in relation to the leasing of film production studios in Calgary
  • Routinely acted for a grocery store chain in relation to their retail leases in Western Canada
  • Routinely acted for a fast food restaurant chain with respect to their leases in Western Canada
  • Assisted BURNCO Landscape Centres Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of BURNCO Rock Products Ltd., with respect to its acquisition by SiteOne Landscape Supply Inc.   
  • Routinely acted for a retirement home operator in relation to the acquisition and financing of retirement homes throughout Alberta
  • Routinely acted for a large car manufacturer related to the sale and leasing of automobile dealerships throughout Western Canada 
  • Represented MNP Ltd. in its capacity as receiver and manager of Hinderikus Jan Meinders, Klassien Petra Afien Meinders and Southturn Sows Ltd. in the sale of its hog operations  
  • Represented GWL Realty Advisors Inc., The Great West Life Assurance Company and Hoopp Realty Inc. in the $100.9 million sale of Trimac House, a Class A office building in Calgary, to Artis Real Estate Investment Trust 
  • Represented CDPQ Mortgage Corporation which provided $49 million construction financing to Brookfield Properties for its interest in Bankers Court in Calgary
  • Represented GWL Realty Advisors Inc. on the purchase of First Canadian Centre Calgary, valued at approximately $188 million
