04.13.11

Texas, Apr. 13, 2011 - Winstead PC, a full-service business law firm, is proud to announce the three recipients of the 2011 Winstead Juris Doctor Scholarships, a program designed to benefit outstanding first-year minority law students. The scholarship recipients are Warren Seay, Jr., a student at Southern Methodist University (SMU) Dedman School of Law; Michael Pham, a student at the University of Houston (UH) Law Center; and Haley Bergman, a student at the University of Texas (UT) School of Law.

The Winstead Juris Doctor Scholarship was initiated in 2008 with a goal of assisting exceptional first-year minority law students at SMU, UH and UT. The scholarship selection process begins with a written application, a 500 word personal statement, a transcript of first-semester grades, and the candidate's resume. In addition to a cash award, each winner is offered a position in Winstead's Summer Associate Program.

A unique feature of Winstead's scholarship award is a $1,500 grant presented to each winner's student interest group of choice. In the case of this year's winners, Winstead will present $1,500 to the Black Law Students Association (SMU,) on behalf of Warren Seay, Jr.; the Asian Law Students Association (UH), on behalf of Michael Pham; and the Chicano/Hispanic Law Students Association (UT), on behalf of Haley Bergman.

"Now that the Winstead Scholarship has been provided for several years at these three fine law schools, it has been gratifying to see how well it has become known on each campus. We are very proud of our recipients of the award this year as well as our numerous recipients from prior years. We are honored to be associated with all of these fine students," said Chairman and CEO Kevin Sullivan.

Seay, Pham, and Bergman will be honored at three separate receptions hosted by Winstead over the next two weeks in the firm's offices in Dallas, Houston and Austin. The receptions are well attended and give the winners and their families, the law school staff, and Winstead clients and attorneys a chance to meet and celebrate the accomplishments of the scholarship winners.
