Winstead’s Marcus Brooks becomes Board Certified in Tax Law

Austin, TX Jan. 9, 2014 – Winstead’s Marcus Brooks recently became board certified in tax law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS). The TBLS certifies attorneys in 21 select areas of law and paralegals in seven areas. The Board Certification process is rigorous and involves ongoing requirements after initial certification. Attorneys must have been in practice a minimum of five years, furnish vetted references and relevant experience documentation and pass a comprehensive, daylong, specialty area examination.

Brooks works in Winstead’s taxation, employee benefits and private business practice group. He represents a broad range of taxpayers, including private and publicly-held companies, estates and individuals in federal and state tax controversy and tax litigation matters. He also advises clients on a wide array of federal and state tax matters involving transactional and compliance issues.

Brooks is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and he is admitted to practice in the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Courts in the Western District and Southern District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 5th Circuit. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law with highest honors.
