Charlotte, July 11, 2012 — Real estate attorney Brian Short has been named managing shareholder of Winstead PC’s Charlotte office. Short works in Winstead’s real estate finance group and has been practicing law since 1998. His practice focuses on a variety of commercial real estate transactions and he has extensive experience in real estate finance. Short is part of a team of attorneys that has been heavily involved in the CMBS market. This team is currently representing several of the prominent lenders who are active in making securitized real estate loans, as this market continues to evolve and mature following the market disruption in 2007.

The Winstead Charlotte office opened in early 2010 and has enjoyed significant growth. Earlier this month, Winstead’s Charlotte office hired its 16th attorney, and counting staff, the office has grown to 24. Winstead, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, opened the Charlotte office to expand the firm’s practice with its large banking clients. Winstead’s real estate finance practice boasts a substantially high volume of CMBS loan work. Estimated closings for 2012 to be handled by Winstead attorneys will approach or exceed $10 billion.

Short represents clients in securitized lending, servicing, loan acquisitions, construction lending and acquisition of distressed assets. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the CREF-C, and the Mortgage Bankers Association. He has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers and he was honored by Winstead for a firm-wide award for excellent service and dedication. Short received his J.D. and M.B.A. from University of Tennessee College of Law.
