Winstead Announces Winners of the 2012 Scholarships Targeting Diverse Candidates
Texas, Apr. 18, 2012 - Winstead PC, a full-service business law firm, is proud to announce the three recipients of the 2012 Winstead Juris Doctor Scholarships, a program designed to benefit outstanding first-year minority law students. The scholarship recipients are Rouzhna Nayeri, a student at Southern Methodist University (SMU) Dedman School of Law; Sushant Mohan, a student at the University of Houston (UH) Law Center; and Samantha Jarvis, a student at the University of Texas (UT) School of Law.
The Winstead Juris Doctor Scholarship assists exceptional first-year minority law students at SMU, UH and UT. The scholarship selection process begins with submission of a written application, a 500 word personal statement, a transcript of first-semester grades, and the candidate's resume. In addition to a cash award, each winner is offered a position in Winstead's Summer Associate Program.
A unique feature of Winstead's scholarship award is a $1,500 grant presented to each winner's student interest group of choice. In the case of this year's winners, Winstead will present $1,500 towards the formation of a new student association (SMU), on behalf of Rouzhna Nayeri; the South Asian Law Students Association (UH), on behalf of Sushant Mohan; and the Chicano/Hispanic Law Students Association (UT), on behalf of Samantha Jarvis.
Nayeri, Mohan, and Jarvis will be honored at three separate receptions hosted by Winstead over the next two weeks in the firm's offices in Dallas, Houston and Austin. The receptions give the winners and their families, the law school staff, and Winstead clients and attorneys a chance to meet and celebrate the accomplishments of the scholarship winners.
