Pete Winstead Honored With Philanthropy Day Special Recognition Award by Greater Austin Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals

 AUSTIN, Feb. 21, 2017 – Pete Winstead, one of the founding shareholders of Winstead PC, has received the 2017 Philanthropy Day Special Recognition Award in recognition of his civic and charitable endeavors and commitment to making Austin better for all citizens.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals presents the Special Recognition Award to an individual with a record of generosity who has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles in their community.

Most Central Texans’ lives have been touched by Pete Winstead whether they know his name or not. From civic involvement to board service to volunteering and financial gifts, Pete has championed numerous causes benefiting the Austin community. Pete has truly inspired change across sectors and empowered good for thousands of people.

“Pete Winstead embodies the very concept of servant leadership,” notes Winstead CEO David Dawson. “He inspires others to give back by getting involved, rolling up his sleeves and making a difference. We count ourselves lucky to have him as a leader, neighbor and colleague.”

His commitment and leadership has resulted in many improvements to the region, including the growth and expansion of the Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas at Austin, the development of the Long Center, and the establishment of the first YMCA in East Austin. As Chairman of TxDOT’s Texas Turnpike Authority, Pete played a great role in improving traffic congestion in the region and the development of the Central Texas Turnpike.

Pete has served the community through board and committee service ranging from the American Heart Association to Capital Area Boy Scouts, KLRU-TV Public Television, Hill Country Conservancy, Colorado River Foundation, among others. His contributions have earned recognition from the Chamber of Commerce, Anti-Defamation League, Austin Business Journal and the Austin Bar Association.
