Dallas, Texas, Mar. 28, 2016 — Winstead PC has hired Courtney P. Mitchell, a corporate attorney with over eight years of private investment fund experience.  Mitchell represents clients in the structuring, marketing and compliance of private equity and hedge funds.  He brings significant experience in fund formation and Advisers Act registration and compliance.

Mitchell started his legal career in New York, working in the investment management practice of two global law firms before transferring to Dallas.  In Dallas, Mitchell represents private equity, real estate, and hedge fund sponsors, and advises investors in the review and negotiation of fund terms.  He was previously an associate at McGuireWoods LLP in Dallas.

Mitchell joins Winstead’s investment management and private fund industry group, which is led by Winstead shareholder Andrew Rosell.   This industry group consists of highly skilled attorneys experienced in all aspects of the private funds space, including fund formation, regulatory compliance, ERISA, tax and acquisition and disposition work.  Winstead’s clients include public and private companies, investment fund managers, wealth managers, and institutional, family office and individual investors.

Mitchell is active in the legal and investment industries and has written several white papers and presentations on SEC regulations and compliance issues for private fund managers.  He received his J.D. and M.B.A. from Fordham University School of Law and Fordham University Graduate School of Business respectively.  Mitchell was the editor-in-chief of the Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law.
