Winstead’s Yasmin Atasi Weighs in on Minority Success in Big Texas Law Firms

12.02.14

Houston, Texas, Dec. 2, 2014 — Shareholder Yasmin Atasi speaks fluent Arabic, volunteers for The Women’s Resource of Greater Houston and co-chairs Winstead’s Business Litigation Practice Group.  This week, she was asked by Texas Lawyer how to succeed as a minority in a big Texas law firm.  According to Yasmin, “As minorities, we have an added benefit—use it to your benefit, capitalize on it—I truly believe we have something unique to offer.”

Atasi was one of the attorneys interviewed by Texas Lawyer for a feature article about minority partners (Read Article).  Winstead ranked in the top five among Texas law firms in headcount for minority equity shareholders.

Atasi encourages minority lawyers to embrace their differences and capitalize on them in order to benefit their careers and personal lives.  She chose to work with The Women’s Resource of Greater Houston because of her gender.  She says that getting involved in an organization that helps people or a bar association geared toward your ethnicity can lead to new business connections and many other positive outcomes.

Atasi is co-chair of Winstead’s Business Litigation Practice Group and leads Winstead’s diversity committee.
